Turtle Hunt

Megan ALWAYS loved turtles. From little turtles you’d find in a pond to giant sea turtles that you mostly see when you are diving, she loved them.

In her job as a school teacher, Megan took her students to the pond that was on campus and they found a bunch of little turtles. These little guys became the new classroom pet for about a week. It was the end of the school year so the little guys had to back into the wild after their week long classroom stay.  Megan loved the turtles and would talk about them all the time so she was a little heart broken on the day that the little guys had to be returned to the pond.

At the same time, Megan started dating Conner. They’d gone out a few times, but nothing more than casual get-to-know-you type dates. Conner was ALL ABOUT Megan. He talked about her constantly. Needless to say he was persistantly persuing her.

On the night of her birthday Megan’s roommate Kim told her that she had seen a turtle in their drive way. Megan was so excited. She couldn’t wait to go find this little turtle. Conner took note of this fact as well.

Despite the fact that 20 or so of Megan’s friends were at her house to celebrate her birthday, Megan and Conner snuck off to go on a “turtle hunt.”   At this point in time it was after ten o’clock at night, and even in the summer it gets dark around that time. What kind of turtle did they expect to find in the dark?  

Once all of Megan’s friends figured out what was going on, they went on a massive Megan and Conner hunt. Their friends found them making out down by the pond. Conner had taken off in a sprint across the nearby field in an effort to not get caught while he left Megan standing there all by herself holding a little lantern.

Despite the fact that he left her stranded, apparently something clicked that night. Megan and Conner went on to date for just about two years, but their friends don’t let them live down their little turtle hunt to this day.

 

Grad School Girlfriend

Being a significant other to someone who is in grad school and is also working is hard. No wonder why all those guys broke up with me due to my time commitment abilities before. You feel scheduled and even if you are their #1 priority, their need to finish their to do list and click off all of those tasks always seems a little more important. Sorry to all of those men in my life that I’ve alienated due to my schedule. I guess it is a little too late now.  

Next semester should be fun when we are both working and going to school. Maybe it will be better.

 

Trans-Atlantic Visitor

Speaking of my temporary move to the country, I feel like this is of note and I can’t hide any identity here, because my European assignment is critical in this story.

My boyfriend of a little under two months decided to surprise me a week ago. He’s a law student back home and therefore has no free time and no extra money to throw around.

He bought a plane ticket to come and visit me in a few weeks.  Yep, he’s flying to Europe for 4 days because 12+ weeks was too long to go without me. He said that after just one week he missed me so much that there was no question in his mind that he had to get himself here.

We’d only dated a month before I left. Mind you, it was a very intense, amazing month, but only a month. He’s in love with me but can’t come out and say those words (I know because he talks about it, but won’t actually say it.)

I was really scared when I moved that, like so many of my past relationships, that he’d get bored and find someone new while I was away. The thought of that just made me upset since he was the one, before we were dating, that gave me the confidence to accept this position.

My fears were apparently in vain because he and I are now planning our weekend of castle viewing and city wandering.

I am SO EXCITED! I didn’t know that men could be this romantic. I’m amazed and in awe of him. This guy already made me happy beyond belief, the fact that he’s coming just makes my life that much better.  Yay!!

 

Move to the Country

I never really thought of myself as a true “city girl.”  I grew up in the suburbs, and the city is a little confining to me at times.

Then, for work I was sent on a temporary assignment to an old air force base in the middle of a farm. There is a “city” nearby, but it really just feels like a glorified out-door shopping mall meets small, Midwestern college town.

Things started to get weird when I realized how many pictures of farm animals I was taking. Usually I take pictures of things like cars and doorways, but since I moved here I’ve been taking all sorts of pictures of ponies and sheep and all manner of cows.

I really am a city girl. All of this farm stuff has made it very real to me that I love cars and buildings and the vibe of the city. I love the mix of cultures and the fact that you can always find something to do and somewhere to go. I guess it’s true. I really am a city girl!

Thank goodness this time in the country is only a temporary assignment…now where is my camera, there is a real black sheep that lives next door.

 

A Lament

Not Fair! The really sexy guy in my weekend long grad school class who went to my alma matter and is a huge football fan, he’s also engaged. Why are all the good ones taken?!?! Not Fair!!!!!

I guess I’ll keep looking.

 

Hmmm…..

So, what do you make of a boy who stresses the fact that he wears women’s pants…. and is a size 4….! I wouldn’t even be able to borrow them!!!

 

 

Panic!

I just had a huge panic moment.

Today I had a lunch date. It was a setup by a dear friend. It went well, I’d like to see him again– but that isn’t the point of this post.

While we were at lunch, we ran into my friend Lindsay. I introduced Lindsay to my date and everything was fine.

Two hours later I’m sitting back at my desk and in a moment of panic, I send the following email to Lindsay:

“Do you remember what I told you that guy’s name was? I fear that I may have said the wrong name. eeek! (I do know his name, I am just wondering if I messed up.)”

Lindsay’s response to me said:

“Brian. ”

My response to Lindsay:

“Perfect. That is his name. I just panicked an thought that I told you Brandon. That would have been embarrassing. “

 

That would have cost me the second date.

 

 

 

 

 

Small World Vent

I am pretty active in my church, and, as a result, most of the guys I date are also members of my church. This is a problem because that means that many of my friends have also dated the same guys. I don’t really care, but I have a friend, Olivia, who tells me every girl that we know who also dated my recent ex, Nate. Olivia and Nate almost got married, so it is even stranger to me that she feels the need to talk about the fact that we both dated him, along with all of our other friends, all the time! I know that the dating pool is small. I don’t need to know every girl that Nate dated.

 

First Time for Everything

Last night, Keri was at a work related party. It was fabulous, but it was one of those gigs with an open bar, so a few people were pretty gone.

Just about the time that everything was closing up, Lance walks the long way around the table where Keri was sitting with some of their mutual friends. As he walked behind her, he dragged his hand across her back and then sat down in the empty chair on her right. Lance leaned over towards Keri, and in a pseudo seductive, yet not so discrete voice, he says, “So, Keri, do you think you can drive me home? We haven’t had that much time to talk tonight” Keri looked at him and started to complain about the fact that he lived on the opposite side of the city from her, clearly not picking up on his proposition because this sort of stuff never happens to her.

No need to fear, Lance got home safely. A mutual friend, Mark, was cognizant of the situation and made some comment about how wasted Lance was, and that he and one of his coworkers would get Lance and his car back to his part of town.  Keri didn’t actually pick up on what happened in that interchange until she was driving home and one of Keri’s girlfriends was telling her how great Mark is and how she should date Mark. Keri thought back to the Mark/Lance interchange and finally realized why Mark jumped in to get Lance home so quickly.  Well, maybe. Keri might be overthinking her friendship with Mark. Only time will tell.

 

Latte Lovin?

Once upon a time, in a land not far from here, there was a man named Ian. Ian worked at the local Starbucks and made sure to invite Jackie, the woman of his adoration, to the opening of the new shop just blocks from her house. He came over, late one Friday night to give Jackie the invitation. It was Friday night, so Jackie wasn’t home. She was at a party on the other side of the city, but Jackie’s roommate Jess was home having a movie night with some friends. Jess invited Ian in, and quickly texted Jackie to let her know that Ian had come over. Ian had already called Jackie, and frankly, Jackie didn’t care. It was Friday night, she was out, and she really didn’t have any feelings for Ian.

When Jackie finally gets home later that night, she sees the inviation to the new Starbucks on the fridge. “Oh brother, he just doesn’t get the clue, does he!?!” she thought. That was the last that Jackie thought about it. She already had plans for that evening to go watch the game with some of her friends from college and she wasn’t about to miss the game for the opening of a coffee shop.

The big night finally rolls around. Jackie heads out with her friends, as she drives past the coffee shop she remembers the opening and made a mental note to remind Ian for the invitation and to make sure that the opening went off without a hitch. It was a fleeting thought, and Jackie didn’t even consider stopping, coffee shops weren’t really her thing anyway.

The game was a blast. Jackie had a ball with her friends and didn’t end up leaving until late in the night. It was well after midnight when Jackie got home just to find a surprise waiting for her on the doorstep. Laying on the ground outside the front door of Jackie’s place, Ian had left his Starbucks apron with three vases full of flowers for her. 

Jackie was in shock. He didn’t. Didn’t he get it? Apparently not.

She fumbled with her keys and then put the flowers on the dining room table before heading to bed. Jackie quickly texted Ian, thanking him for the flowers and then quickly went to bed.

The next day, all of Jackie’s roommates were trying to figure out who received the flowers. Two of her roommates were engaged so everyone figured it was one of the engaged girls. No one guessed Jackie until someone saw the dirty Starbucks apron in the laundry.

It was a really romantic gesture. Too bad it didn’t work. It didn’t help Ian win over Jackie’s heart.  But don’t worry, this isn’t the end of the Latte Lovin story. Chapter Two will come soon.
